Clinical research promises
Yesterday the delegation of the partnership between Europe and emerging markets for clinical research has provided an initial assessment of his visit to Cameroon.
Officials from European and Developping Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) are visiting in Cameroon since Monday. The purpose of this tour is to report the status of implementation in Cameroon for a year already, their project called CANTAM (Central Africa Network on Tuberculosis, Hiv / ads and Malaria). According to Dr. Pascoal Manuel Mocumbi, head of delegation, it is mainly referred to "check how is the collaboration between different institutions involved in this project in Cameroon." These include the International Reference Center Chantal Biya (ICRW), University of Yaounde I, that of Buea, the Organization of Coordination for the fight against endemic in Central Africa (OCEAC) and the Departments of Public Health, Higher Education and Scientific Research and Innovation. In fact, the project aims to prepare CANTAM the central African country to conduct quality clinical trials in accordance with international standards. Currently, only Cameroon, Gabon and Congo Brazzaville are concerned.
So yesterday, after the first stage of the visit to Yaounde officials EDCTP, the press has been invited to OCEAC for a first report. "Prospects are good! "Said Pascoal Manuel Mocumbi. According to him, "CANTAM is already well established in Central Africa. The activitée have started well, various technicians are being trained and many laboratories are being rehabilitated in selected institutions. Indeed, the first phase of this project, which goes until January 2012, aims primarily to introduce the work site and to upgrade laboratories and specialists before starting the clinical trial phase. These are supposed to solve the problem of resistance observed for strains of malaria, tuberculosis and HIV / AIDS. After the press briefing yesterday, the delegation of the EDCTP is a party to Buea in the Southwest, an issue also evaluate the work performed there. Their visit to Cameroon ends February 6 next.
