African Monetary Fund: New members arrive at headquarters
Financial difficulties have delayed the implementation of the roadmap.
Marie Laure Diallo, Ivoirian and Teferra Lemma, Ethiopia, came to swell the number of Committee members established the African Monetary Fund, whose headquarters was opened September 16, 2009 in Yaounde. This workforce is currently focused on three of the seven expected. Four other members are announced in the coming days. They will come, probably later this month, along with a mission of the Commission of the African Union with a working visit is planned in Yaoundé. Since mid-January, Jean Marie Gankou, Committee Chairman, is familiar with his two colleagues.
For more than three months, he was the only employee of FMA officers in the majestic building-seat roundabout Hilton Yaounde. He said he was bored not provided. "The Committee has a roadmap. I started to think about since my appointment, "says he.
This roadmap is divided into two areas: the founding texts of the FMA, the status, rules, subsidiary texts, etc..) And the studies and suggestions on some major problems of the regional economy as the intra-trade African monetary integration, the single African currency, the issue of trade and currency convertibility Africa. With the arrival of other team members, enrichment will take place and contributions will be fed to the participation of other experts. The committee has one year to make the copy and the short period since the inauguration of the headquarters.
However, work is not easy so far. The budget of the FMA is not yet available. Informed sources explained that in September, at the inauguration of the headquarters, they went almost at year end. So it was difficult to act. Jean Marie Gankou is doing as he may think we perceive in his embarrassment to answer the question. Our sources believe however that the budget will soon be available after the conference of Heads of State of the African Union which ended last Tuesday in Addis Ababa.
The same informant certify that the efforts of the Cameroonian government to operationalize the seat of FMA are valued at AU headquarters. We recall that the Commissioner of Economic Affairs Commission of the African Union, Nkwezalamba Maxwell, who had led the AU delegation at the inauguration of the headquarters, had expressed his satisfaction with the quality facilities offered by the Cameroonian government has also equipped and furnished offices. It is always the State of Cameroon, which ensures security since then. Other leaks say the Prime Minister head of government is sustained attention to the life of the institution. We learn that a meeting was held last week on his education, to choose the site which will be built soon on the definitive location of the FMA in Yaounde.
