Cameroon Family Planning Boosted By CANAFAX
Family Planning is being adept in Cameroon over the past two decades. The goal of family planning is to help families achieve the number of children desired with appropriate spacing and timing, to ensure optimal growth and development of each family member. A series of activities are being organized to sensitize the public on the importance of family planning in Cameroon.
In Cameroon, women death ration is about one woman dies in every two hours while giving birth or due to complications linked with pregnancy. Statistics show that maternal mortality rate has doubled from 1998 till date at 1000 deaths for 100,000 living births abortions are the cause four percent of maternal deaths and 40 percent of maternal deaths can be avoided thanks to family planning.
In order to reduce the rate of infant and maternal mortality, the Cameroon National Association for Family Welfare (CAMNAFAW) is carryout a campaign to reposition family planning in Cameroon.
The major challenges are, among other things, to fight against unwanted pregnancies and clandestine abortions in order to contribute in reducing maternal morbidity and mortality rates.
Atangana Ondobo Paul Dieudoné who is in charge of the Programme for the Reinforcement of Capacities at CAMNAFAW said the body is organising a series of activities such as the publication of a research documentary in family planning.
CAMNAFAW is a Cameroonian Non-Governmental Organisation created in 1987. The NGO is found in all the regions of the country and offers health services, family planning, sexual and reproductive rights to the population.
