Champions League – Cameroonian striker into Trance

The nation held its breadth as Eto’o's Inter trounced Messi’s Barcelona 3-1.
The fruits bore the promise of the flowers as the action-packed encounter held Cameroonians spell bound throughout the match. The encounter was the topic on every lip especially as the match smacked of revenge for the Cameroonian striker, Samuel Eto’o Fils against his former club, Barcelona. More so, previous encounter between both sides ended mostly ended in favour of Barcelona. In the group phase of the competition, both teams separated on a one-all tie before Barcelona got the upper hand in the return leg, beating Inter 2-0.Many Eto’o supporters had not yet digested the way Eto’o was literally driven from the Camp Nou.

The debate was therefore between the pro-Eto’o and Eto’o detractors with one camp putting his mettle o question and the other hailing his football talents.

As early as 7.30 p.m Cameroonians clung to the TV sets anxiously waiting for the kick off of the encounter at 7.45 p.m; some in bars others at home and others yet for the convenience of the occasion, in little groups in the neighbourhoods. The absence of cable television was not felt as the national TV station, CRTV broadcast the match live. As the match began, fear led to hope and hope to a can-do spirit as Inter put up a good fight against Barcelona. A goal contrary to the physiognomy of the match sent cold running down the spines of the supporters of Inter. However, a brilliant pass from Cameroonian born, Samuel Eto’o who turned out to be the master planner of the game, was to turn the course of the match. Every brilliant action from Inter was greeted with cheers whereas the same action from Barcelona was jeered at.

The crowd went wild with joy each time Inter got a goal and the fans held their breadth till the very last minute of the encounter in utter disbelief that Inter had beaten the almighty Barcelona 3-1. Attention is now turned toward the second semi final match between Bayern and Lyon.
