Cameroon Douala III : on Cultural Exchange ProgrammeExchange

The Douala III municipality has received a delegation of students from the Howard University in the United States of America. The students who were led by the Cultural Affairs Officer of the US Embassy in Yaounde, Yolanda Kerney, came to display jazz music and to have a warm stay among the people of the municipality. In his address, the Mayor of the Douala III council, Oumarou Fadil said his municipality has a lot of cultural diversity and this is what any new comer will easily retain when he returns. Fadil went further to present his municipality, stating it has a population of 1,300,000 inhabitants and it is the biggest sub division in the Wouri division. He also added that it is cosmopolitan. He stated in 2006; the Douala III council signed a partnership deal with the US embassy to supply computers to some primary schools in the Douala III area. He lauded this partnership while reaffirming his support to the youths of his municipality, hoping this kind of partnership will continue. He said "yesterday was a school, today is culture and tomorrow maybe sports». The Cultural Affairs Officer said the students wanted to have fun and the best place she thought of was Douala III municipality because they have a partnership where they gave some computers to schools. There was a wonderful display between the culture of the North and the jazz music played by the Americans. Kerney said it was amazing just meeting each other for they first time and to put up such a show. There was exchange of gifts which Fadil said was symbolic. He offered a carved wood to Yolanda Kerney and a drum to the leader of the musicians while in return he was given a mug. There was a huge display of other traditional dances from the West, Centre, littoral and North Regions.
